Not just dreaming about the future of textiles – building it. Our production facilities, housed in the cutting-edge environments of The Mills Fabrica London, and the London BioScience Innovation Centre, are where the magic happens.
We're currently scaling our technology for wholesale production. This year, we'll be rapidly expanding our capabilities, to build upon the pilot systems already in place.
We also have state of the art mechanical testing, rheometry, viscosity and FTIR systems available for our deep quality control and batch-to-batch consistency measures, as well as data analytics (and in case you need help innovating your solution)!
Our materials are extremely versatile. We offer raw or blended yarns, mono or multi filament, ranging from 14 denier yarn counts and up. These yarns are compatible with existing twisting, weaving and knitting industrial scale technology, and have been built with a view to slotting into your current supply chain.
Currently, we are working on expanding the quantities we can produce and the speed of our production capability. But we are always available to chat about your vision for using these materials in your products.
Nanotechnology is at the core of what we do. It offers cutting edge solutions that open up new realms of possibility in fabric performance and functionality. The application of nanotechnology in textiles is vast and rapidly emerging in the industry. We leverage this novelty in the design of our yarns.
At Nanoloom, we harness the unique properties of nanomaterials to manipulate the mechanical properties of the fibres we create - achieving enhanced strength, conductivity and recovery. We are also able to adjust the materials’ nanotopography, making fibres that will lend themselves to water resistant fabrics, and in future stain resistant and antibacterial fabrics.
When it comes to finishing and the functional surface of the fabrics, nanomaterials allow us to produce fibre properties like wrinkle resistance and moisture management.
Our fibre production as we scale is becoming increasingly more automated. We’re leveraging AI by utilising a vast library of data ranging from FTIR specroscopy, rheometry, viscosity, tensile testing and other quality control measures and weaving them into powerful machine learning algorithms.
These algorithms will become the ultimate fibre whisperers, predicting parameters and properties for specific applications, and crafting ideal yarn blends. The algorithms will be intelligently selecting which fibres to combine, the perfect ratios for each blend, and predicting the exact characteristics of the resulting fabric or knit.
This isn't just about efficiency; it's about unlocking a whole new world of possibilities. By automating these processes, we can ensure consistent quality, explore innovative blends, and ultimately, deliver superior performance in every fibre we create.
Biomimicry is the process of emulating nature's methods to find solutions in our world, encompassing design and manufacturing with minimal environmental impact. Nature offers advanced materials and techniques that can be leveraged to achieve desired properties in fibres. Over millennia, nature has evolved highly sophisticated methods to solve problems, providing valuable insights for the future of the textile industry.
Nanoloom's bio-inspired textile structures stem from years of collaboration in multidisciplinary teams, drawing inspiration from the natural environment and inherently sustainable biological systems. Nanoloom's biomimetic research is rapidly expanding, ranging from bio-based materials to functionalised surface structures.
A recent breakthrough involves the development of a unique fibre material, discovered in butterfly wings and replicated in the lab, which is hydrophobic and transparent. This material can be easily dyed in any colour while remaining super strong, elastic, and biodegradable.
